MDC Rakesh Sangma of National People’s Party (NPP) has been elected as the new Chairman of the newly-elected Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).

NPP’s Rakesh Sangma secured 16 votes in opposition to 12 votes received by his opponent from Congress to claim victory in the election.

A total of 28 votes were casted. MDC, Bernard Marak (BJP) of Tura, was absent from voting in the election.
