The Lunglei Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles on Friday organized a cleanliness drive at Lunglei district in Mizoram.
The drive was a part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and called as ‘Clean Lunglei, Green Lunglei’ was conducted as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
In the event, a total of 61 Assam Rifles jawans along with 16 local residents participated.
The participants cleaned the area surrounding the Lunglei Bridge.
The Assam Rifles jawans also talked with local residents and the need to segregate and manage the huge wastes that is generated from the residents of people on a daily basis.
Presently, no proper waste management plant to segregate and treat wastes exists in Lunglei.
Earlier, another cleanliness and tree plantation drive was organized by the Assam Rifles in Kohima in Nagaland recently.
School students participated in the drive where they planted saplings as part of initiatives to conserve the degrading environment.
