Mizoram man held for threatening to kill CM Zoramthanga

A 37-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly threatening to kill Chief Minister Zoramthanga on social media, according to the officials.

Mizoram Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) John Neihlaia said the accused Rodinliana alias Apuia Tochhawng allegedly threatened to kill the chief minister if he did not resign within three months in a post on various Facebook groups used by locals with a fake account.

The cybercrime police investigated the fake account, which went by the name ‘Thingtlang Pa,’ and discovered that it belonged to Rodinliana, a permanent resident of Khawzawl town in the state’s eastern region who is now residing in Aizawl’s Chanmari West locality.

Moreover, he was arrested on Sunday and charged under various sections of the IPC, according to Neihlaia.

However, the accused was found without a weapon, according to the senior police officer.

According to him, the accused was also arrested in 2018 for writing a threatening and provocative letter to former chief minister Lal Thanhawla.

The accused claimed in a social media post that he shared on several Facebook groups that they had hired a sniper to kill the chief minister.

Meanwhile, he accused the chief minister of lying and appropriating the entire state budget for his personal gain.

In addition, the accused had also threatened that if the chief minister did not tender his resignation within three months, his life would be jeopardized.
