Assam Rifles troops recovered ten cases of foreign-origin cigarettes worth Rs 13 lakh on Sunday at Zokhawthar village on the Mizoram-Myanmar border, according to a statement from the Assam Rifles.

A team of Assam Rifles personnel launched a search operation based on specific information and recovered the cigarettes.

It was reported that the recovered contraband was handed over to the Customs department for further legal action.

The ongoing smuggling of foreign-origin cigarettes is a major source of concern in Mizoram, particularly along the Indo-Myanmar border, according to the statement.

The Assam Rifles, dubbed the “Sentinels of the Northeast,” have continued their fight against smuggling in Mizoram, according to the statement.
