Mizoram : 25 school students declared ‘failed’; govt orders probe

25 government school students were declared as “failed” in their class-12 board examination results in Aizawl. The Mizoram government ordered a probe into the incident on June 23(Wednesday).

The state government was asked by National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) to take action against the incident.

The state school education department issued an order on June 23, appointing department director James Lalrinchhana to investigate upon the complaints of the failure of government’s Mizo Higher Secondary School in submitting the internal Assessment marks of 25 students to the Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) before the board results were declared.

Director James Lalrinchhana was told to give away his findings within 3 days after his appointment.

James Lalrinchhana stated the investigation is to find out failures – if was negligence of the school management or fault of the students.

School education joint secretary Lalthanzama was appointed as the principal of Mizo Higher Secondary School in order to release the acting principal C. Lalhliapa.

On June 18, after the class-12 board examinations results were announced, the students were declared failed.

The examination committee of the MBSE corrected the marks secured by the 25 students in the board examinations via internal assessment on Tuesday and 23 of them have cleared the examinations while two others were declared failed, as per to James Lalrinchhana.

Out of the 23 students, 2 passed with distinction, 10 passed in first division and second division and one student passed in third division, he said.

An apology was made to all the parents and students by the school management, stating it was “purely” a mistake.

The management in a statement claimed that when internal assessment marks obtained by all the students of the school were submitted to the board, they were mistakenly missed in the list.

In the class-12 board examination results, 87.80 percent students had passed. The results were announced on June 18 in Arts, Science and Commerce streams.
