395 bags of areca nuts worth Rs.74,18,100 has been seized from Vaphai in Mizoram’s Champhai district by the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles.

A joint team of Assam Rifles and Champhai district custom preventive force carried out the operation in Vaphai on April 18.

For illegall possession of the contraband, one individual is held in custody.

Based on a tip-off about the areca nuts, the operation was conducted by the team. The areca nuts were stocked in order to be smuggled across the Indo-Myanmar international border in Mizoram.
