Mizoram : Movement of vehicle resumes at Border

According to officials, the blockade on National Highway-306 was lifted after the border tension between the two Northeastern states calmed down. The vehicles have resumed their movement between the Assam-Mizoram Border.
23 vehicles have entered into the state from Assam escorted by the police till 4 pm, informed Lalbiakthanga Khiangte, Mizoram’s Deputy Inspector General of Police (Northern Range).
The vehicles isolated in Lailapur in Cachar district will be released by the Assam government after all 50 vehicles have crossed the Vairengte check- gate to enter Assam, he added.
Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were deployed in the disputed areas — Vairengte and Saihapui ‘V’ villages in Mizoram’s Kolasib district bordering Assam’s Cachar district, and Thinghlun village in west Mizoram’s Mamit district along the Karimganj district in Assam, Khiangte said.
Residents of Lailapur demanded the removal of Mizoram forces from their claimed Assam’s territory. The blockade began from October 28.
Mizoram will withdraw a part of its forces from the border areas lifting the blockade on NH-306 on the Assam side. This was decided at a meeting that was chaired by Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, between the chief secretaries of Assam and Mizoram on Sunday.
