A 40-year-old woman who abducted a newborn baby from the civil hospital at Lunglei district on Sunday morning was caught by the Mizoram police.

The woman has been identified as Vanlalnghaki, a resident of Tlabung town in Lunglei district.

The police reported that, the woman abducted the baby because she had a miscarriage at the same hospital and was ashamed to return back home without a baby.

The baby was found with the woman from her temporary residence at Farm Veng neighbourhood in Lunglei.

The woman has been booked under section 363 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
