Mizoram : Poll duty police returns with COVID-19 injection

Around 40 per cent of Poll duty Police personnel returning to Mizoram from West Bengal and Assam have been infected with the novel coronavirus.

At least 275 policemen returning from West Bengal and Assam after poll duty were tested positive for COVID-19, informed state spokesperson for COVID-19 Dr Pachuau Lalmalsawma, on Saturday. 236 police personnel returned from West Bengal while the rest returned from Assam, out of the 275, he informed.

Around eight companies of the Mizoram Armed Police (MAP) and Indian Reserved Battalions numbering about 705 were sent to West Bengal and Assam for state assembly polls.

Mizoram Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) John Neihlaia said that most of the police personnel are asymptomatic and are out of danger. Few have already recovered from the infection, he added.
