According to a press release, the Serchhip Battalion of Headquarters 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the auspices of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), conducted a cleanliness drive and awareness programmes in the Mizoram villages of Sangau, Khawbung, and Farkawn on Monday to promote the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.’
During the event, a special emphasis was placed on cleaning the area surrounding the village and raising awareness about personal and public hygiene among the locals. The villagers expressed their appreciation for the Assam Rifles’ initiative. Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Lunglei Battalion of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles organised a Cleanliness Drive at Hmangbuchhaua village under the auspices of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East). The cleanliness drive drew the participation of local villagers.
On Monday, the Aizawl Battalion of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles distributed essential commodities to orphanages in Zokhawsang, New Vaikhwatlang, and Hnahlan villages under the auspices of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East). During the programme, a total of 88 villagers benefited.
Swatchh Bharat Mission (SBM), Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan, or Clean India Mission is a country-wide campaign initiated by the Government of India in 2014 to eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste management. It is a restructured version of the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan launched in 2009 that failed to achieve its intended targets.
