The Captain of Nagaland’s cricket team, Jonathan Rongsen Longkumer has signed for Morecambe CC which is a UK based cricket club for the season of 2021. Which was founded in 1889, is one of the oldest English cricket clubs at Morecambe in Lancashire.
Cricketer Jonathan Rongsen Longkumer is a 35 year old cricket from Akhoya village in Nagaland’s Mokokchung district.
Confirming the signing with the Nagaland cricketer, Morecambe Cricket Club said on its website that, “Morecambe CC are pleased to announce the signing of a new professional Rongsen Jonathan for the 2021 season.”
“Rongsen an experienced batsman who can bowl off spin currently plays for Nagaland in the Ranji Trophy and will join MCC as a replacement for Mitchel Van Buuren,” later they added.
Congratulating the cricketer, Nagaland deputy chief minister Y. Patton wrote on his Twitter handle that, “Congratulations to Mr. Jonathan Rongsen Longkumer, skipper of Nagaland cricket team and an inspiration to many, on joining Morecambe Cricket Club and also we are immensely proud and look forward to seeing him in action. My best wishes to him on the new responsibility”.
Born on October 4, 1986, Jonathan Rongsen Longkumer made his first-class debut for Railways in the 2013–14 Ranji Trophy on December 6, 2013. Ahead of the Ranji Trophy, he transferred from Railways to Nagaland cricket team. He scored a century in the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy match between Nagaland and Manipur.
