Nagaland: New districts should realise economic aspirations, says DAYO

New districts should realise economic aspirations, says DAYO

The Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) said on Sunday that the recent creation of new districts in Nagaland should be used not only for administrative purposes but also to realise the common people’s economic aspirations and opportunities.

The DAYO stated in a press release issued through its Media Cell that India, as a welfare state, has embarked on a developmental decentralised policy through the creation of more districts so that equitable access to government programmes, policies, and schemes is available even in the most remote parts of the country.

As a result, Nagaland should serve as a testament to this noble principle and vision, DAYO stated.

It also praised the government of Nagaland’s decision to create the two new districts of Tseminyu and Shamator keeping in mind tribal sensibilities, saying that the decision “should have its logical conclusion without bias.”

Furthermore, by utilising the SARFAESI Act, the creation of Niuland and Chümoukedima districts should not only be for administrative redress, but also for economic aspirations and opportunities for the common people, according to the release.

Moreover, it stated its support for the proposed district demarcation and demanded that the government implement it as soon as possible.

“After required reasonable rectification, the pragmatic considerations should prevail over other trivial issues,” it said while adding that citizens are expected to extend their goodwill and cooperation on “such magnanimous policy decisions” of a duly elected and mandated body of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
