Nagaland cops insurance raised to Rs. 30 lakh

The Director General of Police (DGP), Nagaland, T John Longkumer informed that Rs. 30 lakhs has been decided as insurance cover for personnel of the Nagaland Police, who “die in harness” (before retirement).

The welfare of the personnel was ‘very important’, the DGP said in an interactive programme organized by the Mokokchung Police and AIR, Mokokchung and Mokokchung Premier TV.

He said, the state police personnel insurance cover was less than Rs 5 lakhs, when he took charge in 2018.

To increase the insurance cover the department has tied up with the SBI and HDFC, he said.

The department is trying for a premium-free insurance of up to Rs 30 lakhs “for each constable, who expires in harness”, he added.

This would help the family of personnel killed in action to survive in the future, he said.
