Nagaland: Kohima Truck Owners hold meeting; approves 5-point resolution

On October 6, the Kohima District Truck Owners and Driver Union (KDTODU) conducted a combined conference at Lalmati with several unions, associations, presidents and secretaries from Dimapur Senapati, Imphal Manipur, and Assam to discuss driver issues and issues.

KDTODU president Ruvese Sokha said in a news release that the house unanimously resolved during the meeting to establish its own home district ID card for the safety and security of drivers, which would be accepted in all states under Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur.

The president and general secretary of Dimapur, Kohima, Senapati, Imphal, Karbi Anglong, Golaghat Nagaland, Manipur, and Assam formed a coordination committee, and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for solving driver problems was unanimously passed by the president and general secretary of Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur.

The summit also decided that in the North East, a coordinating committee (North East Federation of Trade Unions) would be constituted, with Rüvese Sokha as president and K. Daiko will serve as working president, Kuhoi Zhimomi will serve as vice president, Khrishna Bhattarai will serve as general secretary, and Sanjay Khsh will serve as adviser, among ten other members.

The meeting also decided to create a three-person drafting committee. The joint coordination committee urged the governments of Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur to enact the “Social Security Act” for motor workers in order to ensure the safety and security of poor drivers.
