Over the ongoing Mariani-Mokokchung border issue and blockade, a consultative meeting was held with the Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal, at Guwahati by a high-level delegation from Nagaland led by Minister Temjen Imna Along, who is also the state BJP President, and Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor for Horticulture and Border Affairs, on Saturday.
Nagaland delegation, which included state office bearers of the BJP, went as emissaries to Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, informed by state BJP unit in a press release.
Officials from Assam included the Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua, Additional Chief Secretary Paban Kumar Borthakur and Commissioner and Secretary (Home & Pol Dept) GD Tripathi.
The release read, “During the meeting, the ongoing impasse was discussed threadbare and both sides reiterated the importance of living peacefully as neighbours. Reiterating that Assam and Nagaland have had a long association throughout history, the meeting acknowledged that neighbourly relations should not be allowed to turn sore at any cost for the mutual benefit of both sides. They stressed on the fact that both States have to work together hand in hand so that any issues which crop up should be settled amicably”.
The required needful will be done without further delay to remove the blockade on both the sides.
It was also advice to keep off from any unwanted acts that may harm the peaceful atmosphere and relations with the neighbours, the release stated.
