Nagaland : Upgrade of Small Hydro Project

Principal secretary, power, KD Vizo said that the electricity generation capacity from the presently installed Small hydro projects of Nagaland is 26.74MW, during the inauguration ceremony of the upgraded 132/66/33 KV sub-station at Nagarjan to 2×100MVA power sub-station.
The upgraded power sub-station that will serve the entire Dimapur and Peren district was inaugurated by adviser to power, H. Tovihoto Ayemi, on Wednesday evening.
The state’s bulk power requirement is being purchased from the central PSU generating units operating in the northeastern region and the eastern region, said Vizo.
He said, the department is supplying electricity throughout the state on a rational basis due to deficit of hydropower generation in the eastern region.
Vizo added, “There is now tremendous pressure to have our own hydropower generation stations”.
The public were asked to cooperate in places where hydropower stations are coming up.
Of the total electricity consumption in the state, domestic power consumes about 85 percent of it, he said.
The normal electricity demand has increased to 7-10 percent annually from the last 10 years, Vizo said.
From industrial initiatives in the state, the power demand of 200MW is expected by the year 2021, increasing it to 450MW in the next year, he added.
Development of the new 2×100MVA sub-station marks another remarkable achievement of the power department, stated Ayemi.
With Rs 17.05 crore provided by the DoNER ministry, only one 100 MVA, 132/66KV transformer could be installed in the state in March 2015, said Shikari Sema, the engineer-in-chief in his technical report.
From the state’s resources, Rs 14.96 crore was sanctioned by the state government for the installation of 100MVA, 132/33kv transformer to curb the shortage of power, he added.
