Model Christian College (MCC) in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), conducted a Neighbourhood Youth Parliament on March 24 at the College Auditorium.
The programme was held as part of the celebration of India’s 75 years of independence and was attended by more than 70 students according to a press release from the College.
Ketuniphre-e Gwirie, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, spoke on the topic ‘Indian Freedom Struggle…Life, Journey, Philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi and Subhash Chandra Bose’, while John Makhabo, Director In-charge, NYKS Nagaland spoke on ‘Role of Youth in Nation Building’.
Speaking on the occasion, Ketuniphre-e Gwirie presented a picture of the memories of Indian freedom struggle. She dwelled on the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi and Subhash Chandra Bose and highlighted their various ideas and philosophies.
John Makhabo urged the youth to take up the responsibility of keeping the city clean, following the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. He stressed the need for rainwater harvesting as well as the importance of digitalization. He also encouraged the youth to avail free training under ‘Skill India’ mission as well as to avail various schemes initiated by the Central Government . He shared about MUDRA and Aatmanirbhar schemes where youth can avail loan for starting any entrepreneurship of their choice.
The programme was chaired by Shovelu Keyho, while the vote of thanks was given by Setonu Pucho.
