NPCC objects CM Rio’s Republic Day speech; Govt attempt to avoid Oting Massacre

K Therie, the head of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), expressed disappointment after hearing the “government’s Republic Day speech by the chief guest.”

“In areas of political solution, if the state government wants solution, they should agree with the Agreed Points and agree with stakeholders, and ask the government of India to implement,” the NPCC president stated in a press statement issued today. “The truth is that they are against the implementation of a solution,” K Therie continued. He went on to say that after the talks are finished, they want to resume them.

The Congress leader then said, “When we pressed for the implementation of solution to the government of India mentioning that stakeholders including 14 tribal organisations, ANGBF and other civil societies have indicated the desire for implementation of solution, the government of India replied, ‘Yes, but we also have to respect people’s government’”.

In democracy, K Therie said that people’s government cannot be ignored. “But this people’s government has lied. They have committed to the people to pave the way once acceptable and honourable solution is found. Stakeholders of Nagaland people have accepted and honoured the Agreed Position but the people’s government does not want to implement. This is the exact situation with Nagaland. The stand of the state government is a betrayal of trust,” the NPCC president alleged.

The Congress leader then alleged, “It would have been more appropriate to say that law and order is under the control of factions with 9 ceasefire monitoring cells located at Dimapur and guarding all the gates in the state”.

The NPCC president claimed that the government was attempting to get out of the Oting massacre by using the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). He further stated that it is well known that the 21 para troopers carried out a massacre in Tiru Valley, murdering 13 people, and that another was killed in Mon. “Will the Army Court of Enquiry and the state’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) look into anything else?” the NPCC president wondered.

K Therie then stated that Tiru Valley is well-known to be in Nagaland territory. He also stated that the Chief Minister and the Home Minister are in charge of the people’s security and safety within their jurisdiction. “We want to know why the state police were not used if there was a law and order problem from the Hon’ble Chief Minister and the Hon’ble Home Minister?” Who gave the order to send 21 para troops to Oting (Tiru valley) to fight the NSCN(K)? Why did Jorhat have to send 21 para troopers? “Is this with the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam’s collaboration?” the NPCC president said, adding, “Some can be deceived, but not everyone.”

K Therie then stated that the state administration is protesting AFSPA without understanding its origins. “Given the chance, sooner or later, we will expose the truth and bring the culprits to justice.” He stated that those responsible for the Oting event will face consequences. He further stated that justice would be served. He went on to say, “We’ll also get rid of AFSPA.”

The president of the NPCC then stated that the priorities outlined in the message (the Republic Day speech) were all regular tasks. He claimed that the state government has no plans in place to address the state’s expanding requirements and difficulties. K Therie further claimed that important infrastructural sectors, such as load-shedding every alternate hour, acute water shortages in all major towns and the state capital, health coverage in rural regions, including coverage for the terminally sick, and job development, are all overlooked. People can no longer rely on public transportation, according to K Therie. “Even old-age pensions are collected by controlling workers. The government has completely disregarded the issue of traffic congestion. There is no plan in place to help the economy or the manufacturing sector thrive. It does not consider developing educational institutions, colleges, or centres of higher learning,” the Congress leader remarked.

Finally, the NPCC president stated that the state administration has abandoned any commitment to the people’s development again again.
