Training on wildlife law enforcement began in Mokokchung

At the Conference Hall, Conservator of Forests Complex, Mokokchung, two-day training on ‘wildlife law enforcement and counter wildlife trafficking and biodiversity conservation’ for Forest and Police personnel began.

The Nagaland Forest Department, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) India, and the Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSBB) jointly organized the training, which began on March 7 with 50 participants.

Moreover, Dr Sentitula, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Mokokchung, who gave a brief background on the training, highlighted the status of Purchased land, Community Reserve, and Protected Forest, and emphasized the importance of building the capacity of frontline staff in terms of legal know-how, to protect and conserve while combating Wildlife crime, particularly cross border trafficking of wildlife products, presided over the inaugural programme.

Meanwhile, the guest of honour was Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung.

Moreover, he talked about how to manage wildlife in a sustainable way by protecting and conserving population and habitat.

In addition, he urged all participants to focus on learning from the program’s various resource persons and to put what they’ve learned into practice as effectively as possible.

Satya Prakash Tripathi, IFS (retired PCCF & HoFF) and Chairman, State Biodiversity Board, Nagaland, spoke about the training’s history in his speech. He emphasized the importance of raising awareness among stakeholders about the importance of natural resource conservation and combating wildlife crime.

Dev Prakash Bankhwal, IFS (retired PCCF, Wildlife) and Chief Wildlife Warden, Assam, as well as the WCS Team Leader, spoke about instilling a sense of ownership in natural resources and equipping frontline staff to combat crime.

Lastly, the vote of thanks was proposed by Aosungla, Forester-I, Mokokchung Forest Division.
