Record of 80% voting for Mangan Nagar Panchayat Election in Gangtok

Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) recorded 62.61% voter turnout for the 15 contesting wards by the time polling concluded at 5 pm on Wednesday. The other four wards in GMC have been declared uncontested and required no polling.

Similarly, the five wards of Singtam Nagar Panchayat saw 71.11% voting while the four contesting wards of Rangpo Nagar Panchayat saw 77.83% turnout. An IPR release informs that polling for all the three urban local bodies in east district concluded in a smooth manner. There were 54 polling stations for the three civic bodies.

There are 102 candidates for east district civic bodies – 64 in GMC, 21 in Singtam Nagar Panchayat and 17 from Rangpo Nagar Panchayat.

The 15 contesting wards of GMC had 44,340 eligible voters and among them, 27,762 voters came forward to cast their votes in their respective wards. Similarly, out of 4,209 voters in Singtam Nagar Panchayat, 2,993 persons gave their votes in the five wards. In Rangpo Nagar Panchayat, one ward is uncontested and voting was held for the others four wards. There were 4,686 registered voters in Rangpo Nagar Panchayat and among them, 3,647 voted.

Likewise, second polling team to report to the conference hall was the team stationed at Paljor Namgyal Girls Senior Secondary School Upper Building Room No I polling station under Gangtok Municipal Corporation. The team arrived at around 6:08 pm.

After receiving all polled Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and polling materials of all polling stations in east district for Municipal Elections 2021, the EVMs were stored in the strong room located at District Administrative Centre, East Sichey.

The strong room was sealed under the supervision of MRO (East) Ragul K. in presence of Election Observers, candidates and Election agents and is guarded by Sikkim Armed Police under 24×7 CCTV surveillance.
