Sikkim: CM Welcomes New members of SKM

Chief Minister P.S. Golay organized an informal event and dinner at Samman Bhawan on Monday evening to welcome the new members who had recently joined the ruling SKM.

“In my address, I stated our party’s ideology of inclusive politics and encouraged everyone to collectively work towards the development of Sikkim. There may be differences in ideology but our goals remain the same. I added that there should be no division among people, especially based on political affiliations. Further, I asserted on leaving behind the old ways and unite to build a new and prosperous Sikkim in all aspects,” shared the Chief Minister in his social media page.

A SKM release informs that Golay stated SKM to be a party to show way to people and give equal opportunities to all. He told the gathering that one can be a minister or MLA for only two terms in the SKM party. I will also stay as the Chief Minister for only two terms, he said. By doing so, everyone will get equal opportunities and there are possibilities for many to become leaders and Chief Minister, he added.

Golay provides assurance saying that there would be no ‘old member and new member’ discrimination in the SKM. “We will work without any prejudice like the SDF. We will give continuity to the good projects started by the past government,” he said. He encouraged the former ministers and others who recently joined the SKM to extend support for smooth running of the government.

“The leader of the past government had claimed that there would be unrest and violence in Sikkim if the SKM comes to power. However, it has been 21 months of SKM government but there is no violence and injustice in any part of the State,” said the Chief Minister.

“I do not have the culture of taking credit for good work and blaming others for wrong things like the previous Chief Minister. Credit will be given to all in the team when works are done well.”

Former Rajya Sabha MP O.T. Lepcha and former minister R.B. Subba also addressed the meeting.
