COVID-19: Sikkim records biggest daily spike with 205 new cases, 1 death

Sikkim recorded its biggest daily COVID-19 spike so far with 205 new cases on Friday. With this, the total number of Coronavirus cases has gone up to 7,952 in the state.

For three continuous days, the state has broken its own record in number of new COVID-19 cases being reported daily. While the state reported 151 cases on Wednesday, it recorded 170 new cases on Thursday.

Up to 915 cases were recorded this week. The state has altogether reported 1,717 cases in April. Another COVID fatality was reported in the state, once again from Central Referral Hospital (CRH), taking the tally of deaths in the hospital to four this week. CRH initiated COVID-19 treatment from April 26.

Overall, the state has seen a steady growth in the number of COVID-19 deaths with 11 fatalities recorded this week. There have been 147 coronavirus-related deaths in the state so far.

Nineteen new recoveries were also recorded in the state on Friday but the number of active cases is still at an all-time high of 1,432. Up to 117 patients are admitted in different hospitals of Sikkim, of which 90 are at STNM Hospital. The COVID section at STNM Hospital has room for only 125 patients at one given time.
