In Sikkim, the administration of the COVID vaccination process to teenagers aged 15 to 18 years began on Monday. In the presence of Gangtok deputy mayor Tshering Palden Bhutia, Health commissioner-cum-secretary D. Anandan, and Health director general-cum-secretary Dr. Pempa T. Bhutia, the state health department launched the vaccination at the AYUSH Building on the premises of STNM Hospital today.
The vaccination drive was launched in 25 locations across the state at the same time. Anandan told reporters that the Health Department will give Covaxin to around 42,000 teenagers who have been identified as eligible.
He claimed that the state has enough vaccines on hand, and that the department is already delivering doses to all of the state’s hospitals and health centres.
The secretary stated that the department aims to cover the entire population in the 15-18 year old age group within 20 days.
Meanwhile, Anandan claims that no Omicron cases have been reported in Sikkim. He emphasised the importance of following COVID-19 protocols to the letter.
From January 10, the State will begin providing booster doses to frontline workers and senior citizens with comorbidities, according to the secretary.
