The Government of India’s Ministry of Rural Development has praised a Sikkim Rural Livelihood Mission initiative on e-marketing of SHG products.
The ministry praised the SRLM team, led by Rural Development Commissioner Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, for their initiative to market rural products online in a statement.
The SHG products received by the MoRD joint secretary were of good quality and were packaged in a professional manner, according to him.
In December 2021, the SRLM, in collaboration with Ripples of Change Foundation and www.kalgudi.com, launched an e-commerce marketing platform under the brand name “Swayam Sikkim” to provide a platform for the display and marketing of local products by women Self Help Groups (SHGs) in Sikkim. Chief Minister P. S. Golay launched a website and a mobile app called “Swayam Sikkim” on December 4.
According to a press release, Sikkim SHG products can be purchased online at www.swayamsikkim.com and www.kalgudi.com by individuals and organisations on a national and international level.
The joint secretary also expressed his best wishes to Sikkim’s SHGs for success in this e-marketing initiative. According to the SRLM, this initiative will help over 5200 women Self Help Groups in Sikkim market their products online with the help and facilitation of the SRLM.
SRLM implements the National Rural Livelihood Mission in all districts of Sikkim. There are over 5,200 SHGs in the United States, with approximately 50,000 members. At the ward, GP, and block levels, the SHGs are federated into around 500 federations. SRLM has 211 producer groups and seven producer organisations working for it. These SHGs create one-of-a-kind food products, as well as handcrafted items such as handicrafts, handwoven textiles, and natural remedies in a variety of categories. Some of these items are extremely well-known and well-liked.
