Education ACS G.P. Upadhyaya said, “The physical classes from primary to 8th standard has resumed from October 18 after a long break of 6-7 months following the pandemic. The attendance is really encouraging as the students are coming to school in full enthusiasm and zeal. We plan to cover the maximum syllabus within the two months’ time.”
Education ACS G.P. Upadhyaya added that the schools shall maintain and abide by all COVID protocols. Initially the schools will restart with 50 percent of students every alternate day.
The physical classes 9-12 had already reopened before the festive break from october 1. The physical classes resumed on Monday with 50 per cent students of the classes following all the COVID protocols. All the school leaders, including teachers, have reached their respective schools and the classes continued as per the daily routine. The students will be attending their classes with the consent of their parents.
Additionally, the ACS stated that the PGT science and maths teachers will be assigned to schools as required in the month.
Schools in Sikkim are reopening as it was closed from mid-April following the wave of the second wave of COVID-19 disease. With the Covid pandemic slowing down at the end of August, the Ministry of Education announced the reopening of all educational establishments (class 9 and above) from September 6.
However, some cases of COVID infection among students and staff members were reported in both government and private educational institutions during the first week of reopening of educational institutions. The education department then communicated on September 11 that schools to close down until October 31. Subsequently, the department again reported that upper physical classes in schools would resume from October 1.
