Sikkim : Bamboo skill development training ends

A Bamboo skill development and entrepreneurship training programme was held at Lower Tathangchen on Wednesday. Horticulture department under National Bamboo Mission organized the training for 20 trainees from 20th of November.

Addressing the valedictory programme, Horticulture secretary M.T. Sherpa said

The training programme was a success, said Horticulture secretary M.T. Sherpa. Training will be provided to the interested youth, the department said extending its help. We want our youth to be finest entrepreneurs in the field of bamboo crafting as there is good potential in this sector, he said.

The Bamboo artisans will be given support in becoming successful entrepreneurs by the Horticulture department, said Sherpa. He said, Bamboo is considered as the steel of 21st century and is locally available. He asked the trainees to make their bamboo products marketable.

On successful completion of the training, the participants were congratulated by the chief guest, Information Technology department advisor Tenzing Lamtha. He said that the Chief Minister is focused on ‘vocal for local’ and that the local artisans and craftsmen should make products which can level up with international standards.

A mobile app will be developed to showcase the art and crafts of the State by the IT department for marketing and sales, informed Lamthan.

National Bamboo Mission director (Sikkim) S.K. Tamang highlighted

The activity and schemes of the mission were put under limelight by the National Bamboo Mission director (Sikkim), S.K. Tamang. He urged the participants to take benefit from such schemes.

Horticulture principal director Padam Subba, National Bamboo Mission additional director Suman Kumar Sharma and others also spoke in the function.

Certificates were presented to the trainees on the occasion.
