A day-long dharna was held by Socio-political activist Nawin Kiran Pradhan and different organizations on Sunday, near East DAC complex, Sichey. To highlight relevant issues, and remind the government to fulfill its electoral promises, the Dharna was staged.
“To strengthen democracy, people need to compel the government to work on its promises. Before coming to power, the SKM party had made a mountain of promises to the people. Some promises were practical and some were unrealistic. We are holding this dharna to request the Chief Minister and the SKM leadership to recall its manifesto and the promises made”, said Pradhan.
Pradhan claimed that SKM government is appointing government jobs to people illegally. He repeated, “Law says that everyone should get equal opportunities in government job vacancies. However, nepotism is happening here where only those close to the government are getting government jobs. We demand all illegal appointments are terminated and this practice is eradicated.”
The SKM party promised to make arrangements for ‘One Job One Family’ (OFOJ) appointees within 100 days of forming the Government, Pradhan said. “It has now been one and half years since the SKM came to power. What happened to their promise? Our demand is that the OFOJ workers are regularized as per their promise,” he said.
“This is just the beginning. We will do road shows in January where we will travel across Sikkim to reach the people on these issues. The government must fulfil the promises made to the people,” he said.
The dharna was also joined by the Limboo Tamang Voluntary Committee (LTVC) executives and members. The committee said, multiple issues were raised during the dharna which includes the Limboo-Tamang Assembly seat reservation demand.
LTVC said, “The Limboo-Tamang seat reservation is our demand for which the LTVC has been continuously fighting but the present SKM government’s stand on this is not clear. If this issue cannot be resolved till now then what more we can expect for the Limboo and Tamang communities”.
