A direct flight from Sikkim to New Delhi will start from Pakyong airport soon, announced SpiceJet, on January 18th.
Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet in a statement said, “We are delighted to launch new flights connecting Pakyong to the national capital. Sikkim is one of the most beautiful and sought-after travel destinations in India.”
Flights from Delhi to Pakyong will help the leisure travelers and backpackers to visit Sikkim, informed the MD.
A trial flight has already been conducted by the airline on November 17, 2020. A meeting will be held between Airport Authority of India (AAI) and Indian Air Force (IAF) at Bagdogra, where the technical details will be discussed further.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Pakyong airport in the year 2018, but poor weather and low visibility hampered commercial flight operations in the airport, therefore SpiceJet discontinued their flight operations to the airport from June 1, 2019.
