Ground testing of the astro-turf football pitch at Bhaichung Stadium, Namchi for FIFA Certification was carried out on Saturday.
A seven hour testing of the newly constructed playground for bouncing, slide and dribbling of soccer for global certification of the stadium was carried out by a team of Altius Sports & Leisure private limited and a three-member team from Acousto scan Private Limited led by Simon Cleary from Sydney, Australia. Simon Cleary said that the testing parameters like friction, bounce etc. used, are above average and that after few tournaments the ground can become better for further use.
Bhaichung Stadium has the capacity to get FIFA certification, and for that time-to-time maintenance care of the turf has to be done. The process of FIFA certification will take more than a month after the completion of testing, he added.
“The FIFA certification allows the international level soccer tournaments to be played in the stadium and it will be a dream come true if Indian Super League (ISL) will be played at Namchi,” stadium project contractor Shanker Agarwal notified.
The Bhaichung Stadium will be completed by March this year, he added.
