Sikkim : Gold seized at Chekurmai village

130 gold bars weighing 21.573 kg was recovered from three persons on Monday evening at Chekurmai village under Kharibari police station. All three of them were arrested along the Indo-Nepal and Bengal-Bihar borders.
According to Darjeeling SP Santosh Nimbalkar, the total valuation of the captured gold could be above Rs. 30 crores.
They were travelling in a private vehicle when the police stopped them and checked at Chekarmari naka.  Along with some cash and five mobile phones the gold bars were recovered, police said.

An Excise team was also present at the spot. The illegal gold seizure was done in the presence of Siliguri Executive Magistrate and Panchayats, he informed.

The accused persons were identified as

The arrested were identified as Siliguri-based driver Md. Afroz Sangpal and two Mumbai residents Sashikant Sampal (29) and Anil Gumade (40).

Police said, further investigations are being carried out.
