Sikkim Running Group organises 100-km and 50-km relay runs near Gangtok

On October 3, A 100-km and 50-km relay runs were held by Sikkim Running Group (SRG) with support from the State Sports department at Khel Gaon, Reshithang near Gangtok.

A total of 13 teams participated in the relay run where Daring Bulls and SRG amateurs stood first in 50-km men’s and 50-km mixed category respectively.

Likewise, SRG Hustlers and Rocket Girls Project Life came first in the 100-km men’s and 100-km women’s category respectively.

Chief athletic coach of Sports department, Basant Pradhan, who organised the event in memory of his late father K.N. Pradhan stated, “Although running is an individual event, the concept of this relay running is to promote club culture and team spirit.”

“It is a team event so all members shared win or loss of the team equally and the response is really overwhelming. Even runners themselves came forward to support for the success of the event which is really motivating,” stated Pradhan adding that the event will be conducted every year if everything goes well.

The winners received trophies and cash prizes, mementoes to the finishers and certificates to all the participants.

Saraswati Rai was adjudged as the best female runner while Archie Lepcha was awarded as best runner among male participants.
