At Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial (STNM) Hospital in Sikkim’s capital city of Gangtok a successful neurosurgery was performed on Sunday.
Earlier, due lack of neurosurgeons, neurosurgery cases were previously referred to hospitals that were outside the state.
Recently, two qualified neurosurgeons were appointed by the State Government, and the first surgery was performed on a 61-year-old patient.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Pranav Rai Along with the help of anaesthetists Dr Nilima, Dr Kinga and OT staff.
The patient regained consciousness after the surgery, according to reports.
At Gyalshing District Hospital, gastroenterologists conducted gastrointestinal endoscopy and band ligations of oesophageal varices for the first time.
At Namchi District Hospital, paediatric surgeons and cardiologists also conducted similar operations.
Sikkim Chief Minister P.S. Golay said, “I express my gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, staff and the people who have been working tirelessly to make this program a success. I encourage them to carry on with their noble deed to further enhance the medical facilities in the state”.
