The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha today highlighted the SKM government’s major achievements and developmental initiatives for 2021.
SKM spokesperson Jacob Khaling told a press conference here that the state’s crime rate has dropped by 33 percent in the last year. “There has been a decrease in all types of crimes, including cybercrime, and the State police have been proactive in taking action and apprehending the perpetrators,” Khaling said.
According to Khaling, the state’s happiness index has risen as a result of the lower crime rate.
According to the SKM spokesperson, government initiatives in the farming and entrepreneurship sectors have boosted the state’s economy, with Sikkim having the highest per capita income among the North East states. Similarly, according to the SBI report on COVID management, Sikkim performed the best among the Northeastern states, he added.
“Under the leadership of Chief Minister P.S. Tamang (Golay), the State government has seen tremendous growth in the fields of arts and tourism. Sikkim was named the most film-friendly state after the introduction of a film policy, and we hope that the SKM government’s initiative will pave the way for the state’s upcoming artists,” Khaling said.
Sikkim had excelled in almost all sectors in all national surveys, he added.
The political secretary to the Chief Minister also praised the dairy industry’s achievements. He claimed that since the increase in milk prices and the introduction of a Rs. 8 per litre incentive, the state’s milk production has increased by a factor of ten.
Furthermore, Khaling stated that the implementation of the Minimum Support Price in a number of identified horticulture crops has increased the income of State farmers. Many aspiring youth have been inspired to pursue farming as a career as a result of this, he added.
According to Khaling, the government has made significant improvements in the health sector. “In the State’s hospitals, advanced and modern medical equipment has been added, and many medical treatments are now performed in the State itself.” The State government appointed more than 500 doctors, dentists, nurses, and staff nurses in the health department in the year 2021.”
“Despite the global economic crisis, our government approved the construction of a 300-bed hospital at Namchi during the COVID pandemic.” 50 free MBBS seats have been allocated to BPL students in the state under the leadership of the CM. Many students pass the NEET exams but are unable to pursue their dream of becoming a doctor due to a lack of financial resources. Such students, however, will be able to realise their dreams thanks to this initiative.”
As the Omicron variant spreads across the country, Khaling stated that the State has taken strong precautions to prepare. According to Khaling, the State government has already established a separate COVID hospital for the south and west districts at Karfectar, in addition to the standalone 77-bed COVID facility at STNM Hospital.
“A number of exceptional decisions have been made in the education sector with the goal of providing the best higher education to Sikkim’s students and establishing Sikkim as an educational hub. There will be a slew of new universities.”
Khaling also emphasised the State government’s Sikkim Garib Awaas Yojana, which aims to improve the quality of life of deserving households by providing basic amenities and facilitating housing for the poor.
“The State government is working sincerely on the issue,” Khaling said of political issues such as the long-pending Limboo-Tamang seat reservation demand. We are developing a positive relationship with the central government, and we are confident that the aforementioned demand will be met as soon as possible.”
In response to the demand for tribal status for 12 marginalised communities, Khaling stated that a resolution was passed in the Assembly and that it has been forwarded to the Central government for action.
