State Announces Slew of Initiatives for Dairy Producers

A slew of initiatives for dairy producers was announced by the Sikkim Government on Wednesday, including the introduction of incentive at Rs 8 per litre of milk.
The dairy producers will receive the benefit directly to their accounts.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang also declared that there will be a restricted holiday “Gwala Day” for dairy producers in Sikkim.
To speed up production, they will construct two milk production centres in the state every year.
He also said that the “Milkman of the year award” with a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh will be given to a dairy producer who produces the maximum amount of milk.
Animal husbandry Minister Lok Nath Nepal stressed on the immediate requirement of the technical manpower in the department to address the medical and technical issues in rural areas.
He also committed to providing a high yielding variety of milch cows to the farmers in near future.
