Trinamool Congress denied permission to hold meeting in Khowai by Tripura Police Dept

Tripura police allegedly denied Abhishek Banerjee, the general secretary of the Trinamool Congress, permission to hold a meeting in the Khowai district on Sunday. Banerjee arrived in Agartala on Sunday as part of a two-day visit to Tripura.

According to the TMC, police cancelled permission for a meeting scheduled with members of a tribal NGO at Baramura Eco Park at the last minute.

According to the party’s statement, “Police are said to have given permission to a different organisation to hold an event at the same venue by State’s Tribal Welfare Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia.”

Police, on the other hand, claimed that they had just informed the West Bengal police in charge of Banerjee’s security protocol that no prior permission had been obtained from appropriate authorities for his program.

Banerjee told reporters that his party was overwhelmed after receiving over 23 percent of the vote in Tripura’s urban body elections and becoming the main opposition party.

He stated that the Trinamool Congress will not allow the BJP to operate in Tripura. “We have a year to prepare for the State Assembly elections,” Banerjee explained.
