The Tripura education department has decided to suspend offline classes in schools for lower standards due to COVID woes in Tripura and the rest of the country.

Offline classes for students in pre-primary through class seven have been halted.

In addition, all educational institutes’ hostels in the state have been closed in an effort to reduce the number of COVID cases.

However, offline classes for students in grades 8 to 12 will continue on alternate days with a 50 percent physical attendance requirement.

Tripura’s education minister, Ratan Lal Nath, announced the news on Saturday evening.

During a meeting between officials from the state’s education and health departments, the decision to suspend lower-level offline classes was made.

The new class rules will take effect on January 17 and will last until January 30.

Tripura’s education minister, Ratan Lal Nath, also stated that offline classes for students in grades 8 to 12 will continue to aid the state’s ongoing vaccination campaign.

Tripura education minister Ratan Lal Nath said, “We have decided to suspend physical classes for students in pre-primary to Class VII until January 30.”

“Fifty percent attendance has been mandated for students in Classes VIII to XII, ensuring that every student attends school once every two days,” he added.

“However, they will require parental permission to attend classes,” the minister explained.
