Compensation announced for the family of Biswajit Debbarma, who was killed in the violence at Panisagar in Tripura’s Kanchanpur was given by Chief Minister Biplab Deb while visiting the victim’s family.
He also visited the residence of deceased Srikanta Das at Dashda in Kanchanpur.
A cheque of Rs 5-lakh was handed over to each of the families of the deceased persons by the Tripura Chief Minister.
Biplab Deb was also accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarma and Tribal Welfare Minister Mevar Kumar Jamtia during his visit.
At Panisagar, a violence broke out which was followed by an indefinite strike called by the joint Movement Committee (JMC) in Kanchanpur sub-division from November 16.
The security personnel were forced to open fire to curb the ‘unruly mob’ on November 21 after JMC blocked the National Highway at Panisagar.
A member of JMC, Srikanta Das died on spot after receiving a bullet injury. Fireman Biswajit Debbarma succumbed to the injuries from mob lynching at the Agartala Medical College Hospital.
The family members of Biswajit Debbarma and Srikant Das were consoled by the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.
