The family of Padma Shree awardee Beni Chandra Jamatia confirmed about his death on December 14, because of old age.
Jamatia took his last breath at his residence in Matabari, Gomti district in Tripura. He was 92 years old.
Jamatia wrote a book in Kokborok dialect called “Baul”, in the Roman script. The book describes about Rukmini’s marriage to Krishna, and also on the Kangsa’s murder.
Songs were also composed by Jamatia for the narrative, in compilation with his literary works.
Lt. Jamatia was a skilled writer, poet and a composer which earned him the national award.
Jamatia’s death was deeply condoled by the Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
