The Tripura Government raised bus fares by 25 per cent and auto fares by 20 per cent following a 32 per cent rise in diesel prices and 30 per cent rise in CNG prices, said transport minister Pranajit Singha Roy.
Singha Roy stated that, ‘The previous government did not increase fares from 2012 to 2018. As a result, the vehicle owners collected the fare as per their wishes. So, the hike is in keeping the convenience of vehicle owners and the people in mind’.
Since then, the price of petroleum products has risen. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the fare again, later Roy added.
He added that the fare list would be displayed on each bus. The Tripura government will also encourage digital payments. In this case, the bus must have the facility of digital payment. He claimed that the Tripura government is working towards 100 per cent meter auto service in Agartala city.
