Due to shortage of food and financial crises in camps in Bangladesh, four top leaders of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) surrendered on December 24 at the police headquarters, said a senior police officer.
Because of scarcity of cadres, food and financial resources, the four NLFT commanders laid down arms as said by Director General of Police V S Yadav.
The DGP said that the surrendered were recognized as NLFT’s self- styled ‘’deputy chief of army staff’’ Kukila Tripura alias Yarung, ‘’assistant foreign secretary’’ Rathan Kalai alias Reuben, ‘’assistant organizing secretary’’ Joy Sadhan Jamatia alias Jara and ‘’Information secretary’’ Madhu Ranjan Noatia alias Yafung.
Among the deposited includes two AK-56 rifles, one bayonet, four magazines, 119 live cartridges, one wireless handset and 1.5 lakh Kyat (currency of Myanmar), equivalent to ₹ 8,168.53.
Yadav said the outfit’s headquarter is based in Bangladesh.
17 cadres of the outfit got training at a camp of a Manipur-based insurgent outfit, Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), at Tagga in Myanmar, said the NLFT cadres.
