According to Police, three construction workers were reported to be kidnapped by the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) from a village near the Indo-Bangla border in Dhalai district, on Tuesday.

The National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) assigned the workers for the construction of border fencing in the Maldapara village under Ganganagar Police Station of the district, about 140 km from here.

Subhash Bhowmik, JCB driver, Subal Debnath and Ganapati Tripura were identified as the kidnapped persons.

As per police, the construction site bordering Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) of the neighbouring country was raided by six armed rebels carrying automatic weapons and kidnapped three of the workers to Bangladesh on Monday.

Along with a huge group of police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR), Superintendent of Police, Kishore Debbarma rushed to the spot and a search operation was started immediately in the area.

The incident was condemned by the opposition CPI(M) in a statement accusing that even after a Border Security Force camp was situated within 200 metres of the border, the persons were kidnapped.
