Renowned director Jahnu Barua will direct a movie on Ahom Warrior lachit Borphukan , who conquered the Mughal army in the Battle of Saraighat in 1671, The film will be in Hindi and expected to punch the screens by the end of 2022. The film will be produced by the Guwahati-based Dream House Production, along with other top production houses of the country.
The 68-year-old filmmaker, who has been bestowed Padma Shri (2003) and Padma Bhushan (2015), has written and directed a number of Assamese and Hindi films and now he is excited to direct the movie on the pride of Assam. Some of his popular films include Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai (1987), Firingoti (1992), Xagoroloi Bohu Door (1995), Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara (2005), Konikar Ramdhenu (2003), Baandhon (2012), and Ajeyo (2014) among others.
Baruah said “For well over 20-years, I have been living with this dream of doing a film on my favourite war-hero Lachit. There were a number of government initiatives to this effect, including proposals from two former Governors, but because of budgetary constraints the production of such a mega project could not be taken up,”
He wants to depict the whole story of Lachit Borphukan and spread his life and times across India through his film because he fought for the probity of Assam from the clasps of the Mughals, and is respected as a warrior for his leadership and heroism.
