According to police, the body of an 18-year-old college student was discovered in an old well near the Institute of Engineering and Rural Technology (IERT) on Tuesday, and the woman was gang-raped before being murdered.
The woman had been missing from her hostel for two days, according to Prayagraj police, after which her family filed an abduction complaint against a youth. The youth, who claimed to be the woman’s boyfriend, told the police that he and the woman were attacked by some miscreants on January 22 while they were at a deserted spot near IERT. “He is the case’s main suspect.” SSP Ajay Kumar said, “He has made contradictory statements.”
The woman was a student at a city-based degree college who lived in a girls’ hostel. Her roommate informed her family that she had left the hostel on the evening of January 22 to hand over some notes to a friend, according to police.
Her family then went to the police station. When they were attacked by miscreants, the suspect fled the scene and had no knowledge of her whereabouts, according to the suspect. The woman’s cell phone was tracked to a location near IERT by the police.
Her body was discovered in an old well late Monday night. On Tuesday, a post-mortem examination revealed that she had been gang-raped before being strangled. The SSP added that police are rounding up suspects and gathering evidence.
