DCW demands arrest of Clubhouse app members ‘discussing’ Muslim women

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) sent a notice to the Delhi Police’s cybercrime unit on Tuesday, requesting that people making derogatory remarks about Muslim women on the social audio app ‘Clubhouse’ be prosecuted.

“Sulli bai, then Bulli bai, and now indecent sexual remarks against Muslim girls on the Clubhouse app!” DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal wrote on Twitter. How long do you think this will last? I’ve sent a notice to the Delhi Police in the Clubhouse case, requesting that criminals be apprehended as soon as a FIR is filed.”

Tanvir Ansari, a Twitter user, shared a two-minute video of the Clubhouse interaction earlier in the day. Participants, both boys and girls, can be heard discussing the topic ‘Muslim Gals are more beautiful than Hindu Gals’ in the video.

When one of the video’s participants said that every Muslim girl is ultimately a Hindu, he was greeted with a chant of “Jai Shri Ram.” According to another participant, because Islam was founded much later, 70% of Muslims are converts.

“Having sex with a Muslim girl is equal to building seven temples,” one participant said, while another said it was even bigger and equivalent to demolishing the Babri Masjid.

“In the said conversation, participants can be clearly heard making obscene, vulgar, and defamatory remarks over women and girls, especially from the Muslim community,” according to the DCW’s notice.

According to the DCW, this is a very serious matter that requires swift action. The commission has asked the Delhi Police’s cybercrime cell to respond by January 24.

The Clubhouse interaction comes days after a huge uproar over the Bulli Bai app case, which listed Muslim women for auction alongside doctored photographs obtained without their permission. The app is said to be a clone of the Sulli Deals app, which was discovered last year. Both of the applications’ creators have been arrested.
