FIR Lodged against former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav

An FIR has been lodged against former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party workers  after a complaint was filed over an incident wherein journalists were allegedly assaulted in Moradabad.

The FIR has been registered under Sections 147 (rioting), 342 (wrongful confinement), and 323 (causing hurt) of IPC.

A security personnel guarding the Samajwadi Party president pushed a journalist resulting in several injuries.

After the incident, Shalabh Mani Tripathi, the media advisor to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, accused that SP goons had brutally assaulted journalists for asking the questions, were threatened and chased away.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar tweeted regarding the incident. He said, “In Moradabad, in presence of Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, his party workers thrashed the journalist mercilessly, the reason was that he asked questions that Akhilesh did not like. Condemnable. Freedom of expression is the core of India’s democratic traditions and denying it is unacceptable”.
