CBI arrests two Central Railway officers in bribery case

The Central Bureau of Investigation detained a Central Railway Divisional Engineer and a clerk from the Bhusawal division on Monday (August 16) for suspected bribery in the awarding of two bids, authorities said.

A complaint was filed against a Central Railway Divisional Engineer and Clerk, alleging that the two sought a bribe of Rs 4.5 lakh in exchange for granting Letters of Acceptance for two contracts.

The CBI filed a case against engineer M.L. Gupta and clerk Sanjeev Rade after receiving a complaint and detained them after setting up a trap. On Tuesday, they will appear in front of a Special CBI Court.

In July 2021, the complaint was shortlisted in a tendering procedure for significant repairs to the CR’s Bhusawal Zone staff quarters and service buildings for Rs 1.34 crore, as well as a Rs 1.13 crore upgradation contract for the train Coach Care Centre.
