In a First, Transgender woman to contest in Upcoming Tamil Nadu Polls

A transgender woman will be contesting polls in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from Madurai South Constituency, according to sources.

Bharathi Kannama, the candidate will be contesting from the New Generation People’s Party.

“I am proud to be contesting in the election as a transgender for the first time in India,” qouted Kannama.

Notably, Kannama had also contested as an independent candidate for the Lok Sabha seat in 2014 and 2019 from Madurai Constituency but failed both the time.

Kannama has a Doctorate in Sociology, Master’s degree in Sociology, Bachelor’s degree in Economics including a diploma in Computer Engineering.

During the campaigning, Kannama has promised to transform Madurai into a model city and bring development if voted to power.
