Six minors have been arrested in Kalburgi district for raping a 13-year-old girl with dementia. The crime occurred on January 5, and the suspects were apprehended by police on Tuesday after a complaint from the girl’s family, officials said on Wednesday.
All five suspects, who have not been identified by police, were the girl’s Kalburgi city neighbours. All of the suspects are between the ages of 15 and 16, according to Kalburgi police commissioner YS Ravikumar, and they are currently in the custody of the district juvenile justice home.
“The girl was suffering from dementia.” The defendants are her neighbours, and she knew them well. They took her to a desolate area behind a college in the Sunnada Bhatti area on January 5, where she was raped,” the officer said.
On Monday, the girl’s parents filed a complaint with the Gulbarga university police station in this regard. They also revealed that they were only made aware of the incident later because the girl has dementia.
“The girl complained of stomach pain, and her parents discovered she had been raped later.” “We conducted a medical test in response to the complaint, and the test confirmed rape,” Ravikumar said.
Police started an investigation based on the complaint and were able to narrow down the suspects.
“Because they were minors, we had to abide by certain rules, such as not holding them in custody.” We’ve taken them to a juvenile detention centre. They were, however, charged under IPC section 376 D. (gang rape). “We will see to it that the accused receive the harshest punishment possible,” the officer stated.
He said the girl was taken to the hospital and treated.
A 70-year-old man was arrested about a month ago in Kalburagi district’s Revoor police station for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl. According to police, the old man enticed the girl on November 29 by promising her eatables in his field. He took the girl to his field with him.
According to the allegations, the accused raped the child in his field. When the parents returned home from work in the evening, their daughter was inconsolably crying. The child narrated the horrific incident after much coercion.
