NCERT & ISLRTC to make textbooks, educational material accessible for Deaf children in sign language

In a historic move, a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) was signed between the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC) to make textbooks and other educational material accessible for deaf children in sign language.

This was a long overdue move that has finally taken place. As part of the memorandum, educational print materials such as NCERT textbooks, Teachers Handbook and other Supplementary materials and resources for Class 1-12 of all subjects in both Hindi & English medium will be converted into Indian Sign Language in digital format.

The understanding was signed in the presence of Dr Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment and Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ Union for Education.
