PM Modi to open new Defence Ministry Complex in Delhi

On Thursday, September 16, 2021, at 11 a.m., Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open the new Defence Ministry office complex in Delhi. The Defence Ministry and many other organizations are moving to two new complexes on Africa Avenue and Kasturba Gandhi Marg, which will house close to 7,000 employees.

The relocation was prompted by the relocation of the existing Defence Ministry on Dalhousie Road near South Block to make room for the Prime Minister’s new residence and office as part of the Central Vista Redevelopment project. The Defense Ministry’s relocation is expected to result in the loss of 50 acres of land.

The plan also calls for the Vice President’s new residence to be moved behind North Block, as well as the construction of 10 new government office buildings, including Shastri Bhavan, Nirman Bhavan, Udyog Bhavan, Krishi Bhavan, and Vayu Bhavan.
